Should you rely on Zillow and Trulia?
Should you rely on Zillow and Trulia? We get asked this all the time! Our answer is a resounding, NO! Here is why..
Zillow Purchased Trulia – Zillow now owns Trulia. These and many other real estate sites are owned by the Zillow Group. These sites share the same bad listing data. Don’t waste your time checking all of them! Customers will check the sites because they don’t want to miss any listings. This is the business plan of Zillow Group. The more clicks they get on their sites, the more revenue they generate from advertisers.
Local is Better – Our customized MLS search site has MLS direct feeds of all listings for sale. This data is updated instantly! Our sites have ALL the information about the homes for sale, along with all the current & accurate information. Save your time and search local!
Scams – There are more and more scams occurring everyday on Zillow and Trulia. Here is an article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about recent scams in the area. They allow anyone to post homes for sale or rent, just like Craigslist. Criminals are now stepping in and making a lot of money by scamming potential buyers and renters. We are now running into victims who have been lured into submitting down payment money or security deposits because they were lured into a home they saw listed on Zillow and Trulia. Always verify a home you are interested is listed by a Realtor. We have a verification system in place to confirm all of our seller actually own the home.
False Advertising and Information Zillow admits they will advertise all properties that are submitted to them. They do not verify any information for accuracy. Is that home even for sale? Did it really sell? We get calls daily from buyers who found foreclosures on Zillow or Trulia and as it turns out these homes are not foreclosures! Zillow and Trulia advertise false foreclosures to drive search traffic. Can you imagine if your home was subjected to this? Can you imagine how it would effect interest in the home, along with the final sales price?
Zestimates – We wrote an entire article on this subject alone, “Zestimates Are Almost Always Wrong”
